We assess what options are available on the ground. We look at what materials are available, can be worked with easily and quickly, and meet people’s needs. Not every building material is accepted. For example, bamboo has a different meaning in Taiwan than it does for us in the West. What aligns with people’s capabilities?
People who have suffered greatly due to displacement or natural disasters often benefit from constructive activity. It fosters a sense of community and is very helpful in the early stages of the all-important healing process.
Together with NGOs and local leaders, we find solutions. Building brings people together.
